Obituary for Donald Elwin Corrigan

Donald Elwin Corrigan, 83, of Newaygo, passed away on May 2, 2020 in Byron Center, MI. He was born on April 20, 1937, to William and Viola (Houston) Corrigan in Newaygo, MI, the 12th of 13 children. On October 4, 1958 he married Judith Kay Deitz in Newaygo, Michigan. Donald served in the United States Army from 1957 - 1959. He retired from General Motors after 35 years of service and was known for his poker playing, storytelling, shooting skills, fast car driving, and guitar playing. He also was recognized by the FBI for his investigation skills and wrote a book entitled, “The Newaygo Embezzlement Story: How to Steal 2 Million Dollars and Damn Near Get Away With It.”

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Judith Kay (Deitz) Corrigan, son Tim Kelly (Annette) Corrigan of Grant, Michigan; daughter Debra (Mark) Zimmer of Grant Michigan; and daughter Patricia (Aaron) Sundman of Rockford, Michigan, brother: Ted Corrigan of Newaygo and sister Kathyrn (Russ) Corso of Westlake, Ohio; sister-in-law Marilyn Dietz and brother-in-law Calvin F. Deitz of Newaygo, and over a hundred nieces and nephews. His legacy will live on in his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren: Skye (Luke) Vawter, Carey Lynn Johnston, Brooke Zimmer, Cole Zimmer, Dr. Markie Zimmer, Claire Donegal (pronounced Donny’s gal) Sundman, Samuel Sundman, Amelia Sundman and Jazmine, Kamden, Kolten, Adrian and Remington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Thomas Michael Corrigan, his brothers Kenneth, Tom, John, Ralph "Bud", William, Bob, Ray and his sisters Rose, Mary and Patricia, and brothers-in-law Larry and Jack and sisters-in-law Evelyn and Arloa.

A celebration of life will occur at a later date. Private burial will take place in the Newaygo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider Faith Hospice Trillium Woods in Byron Center, Michigan.
