Obituary for Inez A. Wolff

Inez A. Wolff, 85, died peacefully with family at her side on November 17, 2019, at Fountain View Retirement Village of Grant. The daughter of John and Claire Coon, Inez was born in Ohio and as a child moved with her parents to a farm on the Muskegon River near Grant. She graduated from Grant High School in 1951, finished a year of training, and began teaching at a one-room school near Croton when she was just eighteen years old. In 1953 Inez married Robert Wolff, also of Grant.

During her career, Mrs. Wolff completed her B.A. in education and M.A. in reading at Western Michigan University and taught hundreds of children- mainly first graders - at Grant Public Schools, while also raising a family of six children. After her retirement, Inez volunteered with the Department of Aging, helping seniors with insurance issues, and continued in her love of music - singing, playing the piano, and assisting the choirs at Grant Community Church. Above all, Inez Wolff adored her large family, and they adored her.

Inez was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert, in 2008, and by many dear siblings and friends. She is survived by her sister Rotha Trainor, of New Mexico, brother Glenn Coon, of Arizona, and sister-in-law Marge Wolff, of Nashville, Michigan, along with her children: Linda and Michael Clark of Holland, Cynthia and Tim Hughes of Grant, Laurie Cunningham of Adrian, Mary Longcore of Okemos, Roberta and Troy Anderson of Wanship, Utah, and John and Molly Wolff of Arlington, Virginia; her grandchildren: Landon and Marissa Clark, Jordan and Molly Clark, Carston Clark and Clarissa Kressbach, Bryan and Trish Hughes, Megan and Jay Hanson, Kevin and Jessica Hughes, Aaron and Janelle Hughes, Riley Cunningham, Lexie Cunningham and Janus Thumbtzen, Christine Longcore and Frank DeLaglio, Whit and Jenn Longcore, Olivia, Nicolas, and Aiden Anderson, and Samuel, Annabelle, and Lyla Wolff; fourteen great-grandchildren, and many treasured nieces and nephews

A family visitation will be held at Fields-McKinley Funeral Home in Grant at 4:00 on Friday, November 22, with open visitation from 5:00-7:00. More visitation is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 23, at Grant Community Church, to be followed by a funeral service at 11:00, luncheon, and interment at Ashland Center Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the Wolff family urges you to consider a donation to the Grant Area District Library, 122 Elder, Grant, Michigan or the Alzheimer’s Association.
