Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Robeck Oakes
Elizabeth "Betty" Robeck Oakes, 85, of Grant, passed away on February 12, 2017 at home. She was born on January 1, 1932 to Walter and Sarah (Eaton) Smith in Casnovia, Michigan. She graduated from Grant High School. She married Virgil Robeck on June 21, 1951 and he preceded her in death. She then married Richard Oakes on December 16, 1990 and he preceded her in death. She was a member of Ashland Center Church of Christ. Betty is survived by her daughter Gayle (Terry) Hall of Bailey; three sons: Eugene (Sue) Robeck of Grant, Bernard (Laura) Robeck of Bitely, Brian (Kat) Robeck of Grant; her step daughter Kathy (Jerry) Prelewitz of Grand Rapids; her step son Douglas (Linda) Oakes of Grandville; 24 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Edgar "Bud" (Leoria) Smith of Croton, Everett (Alice) Smith of Sparta, Earl (Jo) Smith of Comstock Park; several nieces and nephews; and her life long friend Jerry Wright. She was also preceded in death by her parents Walter B. and Sarah E. Smith, son David B. Robeck, and her sisters: Eloise Fields, Erma Veltkamp, Eleanor Champlin. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2017, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Fields-McKinley Funeral and Cremation Services, Grant Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017, 11:00 am at the Grant Wesleyan Church with Joshua Simmons officiating. Burial will take place in the Parkview Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ashland Center Church of Christ, 1834 W. 120th St., Grant, Michigan 49327 or to Spectrum Health Hospice, 750 Fuller Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503.
