Lila Beth Holben, age 87 of Newark, Ohio and formerly of Grand Rapids and Sparta, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2010 under the compassionate care of Hospice of Central Ohio.  Beth was born on January 31, 1923 in rural Kent City, MI the daughter of the late Edward and Rebecca (Kriger) Stream. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Corliss Dale Holben, two brothers: Wayne and Keith Stream and one sister: Lois (Stream) Burnett.

She is survived by her three children: Robert (Rebecca) Holben of Newark, OH; Beatrice (Dick) Quartel of Traverse City, MI; and Janet (Dick) Kuklewski of Whitmore Lake, MI; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  One brother: Harold Stream of Kent City; two brothers-in-law: Darrell Holben & Carl Edward (Betty) Holben of Kent City; two sister-in-laws: Lottie (Holben) Buck of Sparta & Loreen (Lundquist) Stream of Grandville, MI; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Beth & Dale were married on September 18, 1943.  As a WWII bride, she spent much of the next 2 years living with her parents in Kent City.  She worked for Wurzburg’s Department Store located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids as a bookkeeper for many years and later retired from Major Tool and Die.

Beth enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans for her loved ones, reading, and watching professional golf.  After retirement she & Dale took many trips around the country in their motor home with her as the navigator. 

Visitation will be on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 pm at McKinley Funeral Home in Grant, MI. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 11:00 am at Mamerlund Lutheran Church, Sparta, MI. Final interment will be at the Idlewild Cemetery, Kent City, MI.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to:  Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055.
