Mr. LaVerne Hartman Godfrey, Age 80 Formerly of Grand Rapids, retiring to Newaygo, died Sunday, January 22, 2006 in Grant.  He was born LaVerne Hartman Godfrey in Muskegon, Michigan the son of Amelia M. (Seitz) and Otto LaVerne Godfrey on October 25, 1925.  He was a Chief Title Examiner for Trans America Title Co. until his retirement and enjoyed sailing and woodcarving.  He is survived by his wife Marilyn Jean (Anderson) Godfrey of Newaygo; his son Brent & Karen Godfrey of Grand Rapids; his grand dog Moon Shadow; his sister Jeanne Oliver of Whitehall; his sister in law Joyce Anderson of Sparta; several nieces and nephews; his special friends Jim & Becky Reagan and Arlene & Bud Lyons; he was preceded in death by his sisters Gwendolyn Godfrey and Elva Houser.  Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM from the McKinley Funeral Home Newaygo Chapel on Thursday, January 26, 2006 with Chaplain Judy Corey officiating.    Visitation will be held 7-9 PM Wednesday.  In Lieu of Flowers please consider Vern's desire to preserve the environment and to promote medical research by donating to the Land Conservancy of West Michigan or the Van Andle Institute.   - McKinley Funeral Home, Newaygo 231-652-5613.  http:\\mckinleyfuneral.com
