Herman Veurink, age 95, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the Boulevard
Hills Nursing Home,
Rochester Hills
,
Michigan
. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse and partner of 58
years, Genevieve. He is survived by daughter, Mary Jane Zegers of
Rochester
, MI., son, Dr. Charles H ( Mary) Veurink of Winter Park, Fl., and daughter,
Martha A Veurink of
Gorham
,
ME.
; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and
nephews. He was born in
Newaygo
County
on October 22, 1910, and graduated from
Kent
City
High School
in 1929. A long time resident of Grant, he was a farmer and then
co-owner of H-G Fertilizer in Grant until retirement in 1980. He will be
remembered for his service and dedication as Grant Village President and as a
long term member of the Grant School Board. While a member of the
Grant Reformed Church, he served as both Deacon and Elder. After
retirement, upon relocation to
Fremont
, he was a contributor to the Fremont Area Foundation and a member of the First
Congregational Church. As a member of the Ramshorn County
Club, he enjoyed playing golf until the age of 90. Memorial services will be
held 3 PM Sunday, October 8 at McKinley Funeral Home, Grant Chapel
with Rev. Frank Vietze officiating; followed by interment at Hilton Cemetery,
Casnovia. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 PM until
time of service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, please consider the Herman
& Genevieve Veurink Memorial Fund, Fremont Area Foundation.
