Mrs. Bertha Ella Louise "Fields" Ennis, age 77 of Ironwood, and formerly of Grant, died Thursday, June 8, 2006 in Ironwood. She was born Bertha Ella Louise Smith in Howard City, the daughter of Sarah (Eaton) and Walter Smith on January 12, 1929. She married Arnold Franklin Fields on April 22, 1948 in Newaygo and he preceded her in death on April 6, 1998. She was a Homemaker all her life. She was a life member of VFW Post #4249 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children Arnold Lee & Erna Fields of Grant, Ned Ivan Fields of Grant, Tena & Calvin Godwin of White Cloud, Angela Palazzola of Ironwood, 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, her brothers and sisters Edgar "Bud" & Leora Smith of Newaygo, Elizabeth Oakes of Grant, Erma & Orie Veltkamp of White Cloud, Everett & Alice Smith of Sparta, Earl Smith of Comstock Park, brother-in-law John Champlin. She was also preceded in death by her sister Eleanor Champlin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. from the McKinley Grant Chapel, on Monday, June 12, 2006 with Mr. David Joe Hatter officiating. Interment will be in the Shippy Cemetery near Grant. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 P. M. Sunday. For Memorials please consider the American Diabetes Association.
