Mr. Alex Henry Atkinson, Age 73 of Grant, died Monday, February 27, 2006 in Fremont.  He was born Alex Henry Atkinson in Detroit, Michigan the son of Mildred (Day) and Eldon  Winslow on December 25, 1932.  He married Joanne Leigh on 1973 in Ecorse.  He was a Truck Driver for Chemtron Corporation until retired in 1982.  He was a Past commander of VFW Post #4249 Newaygo where is a life member, life member of Purple Heart Chapter 18, DAV Dearborn, past Commander District 4 Cooties, Member Pup Tent 11, Rakkasans-the 187th Airborne Assoc.  He is survived by his wife Joanne Atkinson of Grant; his sons Alex Jr. & Victoria Atkinson of Lousianna; Donald & Cheryl Atkinson of Gaylord; Ronald Atkinson of Westland; Matthew Atkinson of Westland; 15 Grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; his brothers Donald & Jennie Farrar of Las Vegas, NV; James & Shiela Farrar of Lincoln Park; his sister Mildred of Farmington; his sisters in law Audrey Farrar of Brownstown Twp., MI; Elizabeth Atkinson of Melvindale; and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the V.F.W. Post #4249 on Thursday, March 02, 2006.  Interment in Hillside Cemetery.   Visitation will be held Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the VFW Post #4249.  For memorials please consider the family.  You may sign his online guestbook at www.mckinleyfuneral.com
