Mrs. Stella B. (Hartuniewicz) Wiersma, aged 79, of Newaygo died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Spectrum Health-Blodgett Campus in Grand Rapids. She was born Stella Barteldene Dykhouse February 4, 1926 in Byron Township, Kent County, the daughter of Stella (Vander Wall) and Barney Dykhouse. She married Raymond Hartuniewicz September 26, 1942 in Grand Rapids and he preceded her in death December 12, 1977. She then married Sebie A. Wiersma September 19, 1992 in Stuben, Indiana and he also preceded her in death October 11, 2001. She was a cook and later a custodian for 17 years for the Grand Rapids Public Schools retiring in 1985. Mrs. Wiersma was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo, a life member of the VFW Post #4249 Newaygo Ladies Auxilary and helped with the election polls in Grand Rapids.

She is survived by her children Joan & Joe Wiebenga of Rockford, Carla Turner of Grand Rapids, Frank & Nancy Hartuniewicz of Fremont, Stella & Dennis Goebel of Grant, Raymond Hartuniewicz of Allegan, Sherry & Scott Wigent of Newaygo, Nancy & Tom Smith of Charleston, SC, Maria & Steven Wigent of Newaygo, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, her sisters and brothers Alice & Bud Baker, Ike Dykhouse, Bernice Doty, Barney & Donna Dykhouse, Martha Blackwell and her brother-in-law Hank Stuyfzand.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 A. M. Monday, April 11, 2005 at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo with Father Tom Boufford as cerebrant. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Grand Rapids. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers please consider the American Cancer Society and/or Hospice of Michigan. The family was served by the McKinley Funeral Home in Newaygo.
