Mr. Edward J. Chatman, Sr., age 87 of Howard City, and formerly of Newaygo, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at his daughter’s residence in Reynolds Twp., Howard City. He was born Edward Jefferson Chatman in Grand Rapids, the son of Mable (Bullis) and Leo Chatman on December 1, 1917. He married Angeline Klok on January 25, 1938 in Wyoming, Michigan and she preceded him in death on July 1, 1995. He was a Truck Driver for MX Teamsters, Grand Rapids for 35 years until his retirement in 1974. He was a Life Member VFW Post #4249 Newaygo and a member of Croton American Legion #381. He is survived by his children Frank & Sally Chatman of Wyoming, Jennie & Art Van Setters of Howard City, Joann & Tom Burke of Hastings, Angel & John Cook of Comstock Park, Edward & Betty Chatman, Jr. of Byron Center, Marlene & Newell Heath of Hastings, Mabel & Dan Van Os of Cedar Springs, Linda & Bill Kasul of Wyoming, Pat & Greg Santellan of Grant, granddaughter Melissa & Chris Sanders of Greenville, 37 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M from the McKinley Newaygo Chapel, on Saturday, October 22, 2005 with Mr. Bill Kasul officiating. Interment will be in the Croton Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 P. M. Friday.
