Mr. Roger L. Carpenter, age 68 of Newaygo, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at his residence in Brooks Township. He was born Roger Lee Carpenter in Grand Rapids, the son of Irene Lucille (Melpolder) and Clifford Harold Carpenter on August 12, 1935. He married Mary Lorane Edwards on August 24, 1956 in San Jose, California. He was a Blaster for Gordon Carter Blasting in California for 20 years being the owner the last few years until his retirement in 2000. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the Navy from September 8, 1954 to December 29, 1971 when he was discharged as a AE1 (E6).

He is survived by his wife Mary Carpenter, his 4 sons Bruce & Mindy Carpenter, Gary Carpenter, Dale & Barbara Carpenter all of California, and Ronald Carpenter of Newaygo, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-granddaughters and His sister Jenny & Vance Harger of Grand Rapids.

At his request there will be no services and no visitation and cremation has taken place.
