Mr. Richard A. "Dick" Smart, age 72 of Newaygo, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at his residence in Brooks Twp. He was born Richard Allen Smart in Hiawatha, Michigan the son of Beatrice (Cadwell) and George Smart on June 26, 1932. He married June Ellen Fournier Andrews on August 21, 1981 in Grand Rapids. He was a Checker in shipping/receiving for General Motors, Inc., Grand Rapids until July 1, 1994 after 40+ years. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War training in the canine unit serving from March 26, 1951 until December 14, 1953 being discharged as an Airman first class. He was a Life member of the VFW Post #4249 of Newaygo.

He is survived by his wife June Smart, his children Robert & Ellen Smart of Lake Odessa, Jerry & Kelly Smart of Middleville, Donald Smart of Wyoming, Carrie & Roy Roberts of Wyoming, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P. M. from the VFW Post #4249, Newaygo, on Monday, October 18, 2004 with Chaplain Leo Rathbun officiating. There will be no visitation. For Memorials In lieu of flowers please consider the VFW Children's Home.
