Mr. Philip L. Van Dyke, age 76 of Grant, died Monday, May 24, 2004 at his home in Grant Township. He was born Philip Leslie Van Dyke in Grand Rapids, the son of Thelma (Usborne) and Leslie Van Dyke on January 9, 1928. He married Carlene Vivian Farwell on October 2, 1948 in Wyoming, Michigan. He was a Truck Driver for Schnieder Transport - Green Bay, Wisconsin until 1990. He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church-Newaygo. He was a member of VFW Post #4249 - Newaygo; American Legion - Grandville. He was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II from February 28, 1946 to August 27, 1947 when he was discharged as a PFC. He is survived by his wife Carlene, his son Michael & Sue Van Dyke of Newaygo, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A M from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Newaygo on Friday, May 28, 2004 with Father Loc Trinh as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church 2-4 & 7-9 P. M. Thursday with the Rosary at 7:00 P. M. For Memorials please consider Hospice of Michigan Newaygo County and/or the VFW Children's Home. Military Honors will be under the Auspices of the VFW Post #4249 of Newaygo.
