Mrs. Mary W. Smith, age 89 of Newaygo, died Saturday, March 13, 2004 at her residence in Croton Township. She was born Mary Wilma Williams in Mulliken, Michigan the daughter of Elnora (Turner) and Harrison Williams on July 2, 1914. She married John Ludwig Smith on July 7, 1933 in Portland, Michigan and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1987. She was a Homemaker all her life. She was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church was a former member of St. Ann's at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children Charles Smith of Fountain, Marlene & Ed Cory of Newaygo, Joan & Rudy Hodits of Muskegon, Gary & Donna Smith of Howard City, Marilyn & Terry Shivaver of Portland, Beverly & Michael Hicks, Sr. of Columbia, TN, Mary & Douglas Vander Stett of White Cloud, Debra & Charles De Graaf of White Cloud, 125 grand & great grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, her sisters Helen Hartwick of Erie, and Norma Jean Adams of Lyons. She was preceded in death by son John H. Smith in 1949, daughters Carrol Hoek in 1997 and Alice Rooney in 2002.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A. M from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Newaygo on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 with Father Loc Trinh as celebrant. Graveside services will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery in Grand Ledge at 3:30 P. M.. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 P. M. Tuesday at the McKinley Newaygo Chapel.
