Mrs. Irene H. Slachter, age 87 of Kent City, died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility near Fremont. She was born Irene Helen Mellon in Grant, the daughter of Olive M.(Charbonneau) and Ralph S. Mellon on May 22, 1917. She married William Slachter on April 3, 1952 in Grant, and he preceded her in death on November 30, 1983. She was a School Teacher for the Grant Public Schools, Patterson School & Pleasant Valley School until her retirement in 1966. She was a member of Grant Reformed Church.

She is survived by her sister-in-law: & several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A M from the McKinley Grant Chapel, on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 with Pastor James Karsten officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland Center Cemetery near Grant. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 P. M. Tuesday.
