Mr. Laverne F. Cole, age 79 of Grant, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at his home. He was born Laverne Fay Cole in Conklin, MI the son of Orpha (Pierce)and Edwin Cole on June 11, 1924. He married Lila Paterson on June 11, 1949 in Muskegon, Michigan and she preceded him in death on May 3, 1967. He then married Marcia Jean Wheeler Dill on December 22, 1989 in Grant, Michigan. He was a Post Master for U.S. Post Office-Grant until . He was a member of Grant United Church of Christ,the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4249; the Disabled American Veterans; and the Grant Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife Marcia Cole, his daughter Cindy Gondre of Newaygo, MI, step-sons Richard & Brenda Dougan of Cascade, MD, Charles Dougan of Grant, 5 grandchildren, his brother Eldon & Barbara Cole of Plainwell, and sister Flossie Brualt of Muskegon,

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M from the Grant United Church of Christ, on Friday, October 17, 2003 with Pastor Michael Gesler officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland Center Cemetery near Grant. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 P. M. Thursday at the Grant United Church of Christ. For Memorials please consider the Grant United Church of Christ and/or Hospice of Michigan-Newaygo Co.. Military graveside services are under the auspices of the VFW Post #4249 of Newaygo.
