Mrs. Opal W. Stray age 81 of Croton Township, Newaygo, Michigan died Monday July 22,
2002 at her residence. She was born Opal Winifred Boyd in
Howard City, Michigan the daughter of Gertrude (Ackens) and Levi Boyd on November 26, 1920.  She married Merrill Stray on June 10, 1938 in Newaygo and he preceded her in death on
August 3, 1982. She was a general laborer for Wolverine World Wide in Rockford until
1974. She was a member of Newaygo VFW Post 4249 Auxillary; Longtime Volunteer of Red
Cross and active in Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her children Robert Stray, Sr. of Newaygo, MI, Mary Jane & John Anderson of Rockford, MI,
Merrill & April Stray of Greenville, MI, Katie & Jerry Gibson of Charlotte, NC,
fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, three great-great-granchildren,
her brother Kenneth Boyd of Cedar Springs, MI, her sister Vivian Garber of Newaygo, MI,
her sisters-in-law Diane Boyd of Newaygo, MI, Doris Maple of Grand Haven, MI,
and her brother-in-law Emory Mallette of Cedar Springs, MI.  She was preceded in death by
her son James A. Stray in 1940, her daughter Jean Ellen Stray in 1971,
her brothers Levi Boyd, Raymond Boyd, & John Maple and her sisters Norma Jean Emery, Geraldine Wisner & Doris Mallette.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P. M. from the McKinley Funeral Homes-Newaygo Chapel,
on Thursday, July 25, 2002 with Rev. Wesley Smith officiating . Interment will be in the Oak Grove
Cemetery in Croton Township. Visitation will be held Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 P. M.   For memorials please consider the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society, Newaygo County Chapter.
